The Berlin Museum of the History of Medicine at the Charité traces the development of medicine over the last 300 years. The permanent exhibition features around 750 pathological and anatomical specimens and offers insights into the anatomical museum, the laboratory and the ward. Special exhibitions bring together medicine, culture and history.
Shared Knowledge: Medical Educational Films from East and West
On German Unity Day, we’ll explore the history of medical educational films in East and West Berlin.
These historical recordings offer insights into medical research and education of the time and show how knowledge was passed on, examinations were conducted, and treatment methods were developed. X-ray films from the 1960s through the 1980s reveal, among other things, the movements involved in speaking and swallowing and illustrate the development of medical imaging.
Carolin Pommert and Katrin Pilz place the films in their historical and scientific context. Together with the audience, they explore the differences and similarities that can be identified in the transmission of medical knowledge and in the use of film as a medium during the division of Germany.
