Neighbourhood Quiz

Think Outside the Hedge!

“Here’s to good neighbourliness” is also the motto of the quiz. But watch out: the teams from next door are playing against you, so perhaps you shouldn’t give too much away during your chats over the garden fence! Our quiz masters Tom and Darren have once again put together a colourful mix of questions for you. It’s all about general knowledge and everything that makes a neighbourhood tick. Anyone can join in and win – no specialist knowledge is required. Instead, it’s all about collective wisdom – and perhaps a little luck. So grab your family, friends or your favourite neighbours and join in the fun.

Descriptions of the tours at Futurium

Discover and shape the future! — Public tour
How will we live in the future? Who hasn’t asked themselves that at some point? Yet there is no such thing as ‘the one’ future. As many people dream of the world of tomorrow and the day after, so many possible futures are conceivable.
This 60-minute tour presents the themes of our exhibition in a vivid and entertaining way, tailored to the age of the participants. Ages 16 and over

Diving into the future: Futures Literacy and the oceans of tomorrow
Imagine it’s the year 2070: a fish is swimming in the depths of the ocean. Is it alone in the murky water, or surrounded by a colourful school in the teeming sea? On this family tour, you’ll embark on an interactive journey into the future. Using your imagination, you’ll explore scenarios at interactive stations and develop your own ideas for the oceans of tomorrow. In doing so, you’ll practise futures literacy – the ability to imagine futures in order to consciously shape the present. The tour is recommended for children aged 6 and over.

Into the worlds of the future — Public family tour
The exhibition at Futurium presents different futures. Visitors can discover exciting future options in the ‘Technology’, ‘Nature’ and ‘People’ reflection spaces and develop their own views on controversial topics. The highlights of the exhibition are explained using clear examples.
The family tour is suitable for children aged 6 and over.

Family Open Lab

Our raw materials of the future

Imagine if the raw materials of the future could be right there in our drawers! Together, we’ll dive into the world of ‘urban mining’ and discover how we can collect raw materials sustainably in our city. As a family, you can playfully develop sustainable products from the components of old mobile phones. We expect you to spend around 20 minutes in the lab. This drop-in session is organised in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Society for the Promotion of Applied Research e.V. on behalf of its Fraunhofer Institute for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems IAIS.

Location: Workshop area | recommended for ages 8 and up | no registration required | Time: 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Game

Just Add People

We invite you not only to discover futures, but to build them together. Amidst wooden sticks, neon-yellow connectors and brightly coloured spray chalk, brand-new, useless and necessary relationships emerge – just as they do between people, objects and environments. With child’s play ease, you can build, reshape and tear down worlds through collaborative processes and exciting mission cards.

Location: Forecourt | recommended for ages 6 and up | no registration required | Time: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Concert

Fanfare Gertrude

Forget marching music – here come brass beats with glitter and costumes! Anyone who thinks of military roll calls and shooting festivals when they hear ‘fanfare’ will be disappointed. Because “Fanfare Gertrude” brings the joie de vivre of French street music to Germany. Over 25 musicians breathe new life into pop and rock songs with trumpets, trombones, clarinets, flutes, saxophones, tubas and other instruments. It’s going to be loud, colourful and danceable – no uniforms, but 100 per cent fun!

Location: Forecourt | Music | No registration required | Time: 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm

Improvisational Theatre

Improvisionäre – Moving News

The Futurium becomes a post office: from here, the Improvisionäre act as messengers, sending visitors’ thoughts, questions and perspectives on a journey through the neighbourhood. What do we have in common, where do our perspectives differ – and what still holds us together?
In analogue chain letters, ideas travel between the various institutions. The audience now becomes postmen and women themselves, passing on thoughts and bringing the neighbourhood into conversation with one another. A playful exchange about living together today and tomorrow.

Location: Foyer, forecourt | Age: 6 years and over | No booking required | Time: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Program – Museum für Naturkunde (Museum of Natural History)

Museum Rally – Independent discovery tour through the Museum of Natural History

With this scavenger hunt, children and families can explore the museum at their own pace. Questions provide clues to the objects being sought and guide participants through the individual exhibition areas.

Location: Pick up the rally at the information desk

Urban Ecology and Climate Change – Guided tour around the Museum of Natural History

Berlin is the greenest and most biodiverse capital in Europe. On an urban ecology tour around the museum, many inner-city animal and plant species are introduced, and their adaptations to life in the big city are highlighted. There is a particular focus on the already visible signs of climate change and its effects on plants, animals and people in Berlin.

Guided tours

300 Years of Medical History – Guided tour of the permanent exhibition

From the anatomical theatre through the laboratory to the ward – join us on a journey through 300 years of medical history, exploring the highlights of our permanent exhibition.

Time: 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm

(In)visible Women in the History of Medicine

Even in the history of medicine, women remain under-represented to this day, although they have always been present. Whether as midwives, nurses, doctors, researchers, wives or patients – women have played a decisive role in shaping medicine across various fields and roles. In this guided tour of the permanent exhibition, we shine a spotlight on the often-unknown women in the history of medicine and provide insights into their careers and fields of activity.

Time: 3:00 pm

Curator’s tour: Horizontal – The Sickbed and the World from a Lying Position

Hardly anything is as closely associated with being ill as the lying position. During the tour of the exhibition “Horizontal: The Sickbed and the World from a Lying Position”, museum director Monika Ankele opens up new perspectives on the lying position and the micro-space of the sickbed. Objects from the history of medicine enter into a dialogue with contemporary art and activist positions.

Time: 12:00 pm, 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm

Stories from the Sickbed – Guided tour for children (aged 8 and over)

Being ill is part of life – every one of us experiences it. When you’re ill, you lie in bed until you feel better. But what about people who are ill for a long time or even permanently? For them, the hospital bed plays a very special role. On this guided tour, you’ll learn how children and adults have coped with illness throughout history and in the present day.

Time: 11:00 am and 3:00 pm

Site tour: The history of the Charité from 1710 to the construction of the Berlin Wall

Discover the historic grounds of the Charité on a one-hour tour and hear fascinating stories and anecdotes about Berlin’s oldest hospital. As you search for traces of constant change, you’ll learn about various significant figures in Berlin’s medical history, such as Rudolf Virchow, Rahel Hirsch and Ferdinand Sauerbruch.

Time: 1:00 pm

Site tour: Monuments to scholars

The tour is organised in cooperation with GeDenkOrt.Charité – Science with Responsibility and is led by historian Lydia Stötzer, Head of the GeDenkOrt.Charité office.

Time 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm

Lecture Theatre Ruins

In the unique atmosphere of the lecture theatre ruins, historical films from the Charité’s former educational film department will be screened. The films bring the Charité of the 20th century to life: they offer insights into the hospital’s architectural developments as well as its clinics, research facilities and teaching. The footage impressively documents how medical knowledge, the institution and its self-image were not only captured on film but – in line with the social and political conditions and ideologies of their time – staged.
