Saâdane Afif – Overview

The introductory tour covers the exhibition’s key themes and provides insight into the work of Saâdane Afif, an interdisciplinary artist who has lived in the city since 2003. Among other works, the exhibition features the multi-part piece “The Fountain Archives.” This artistic archive project is dedicated to one of the most prominent chapters in 20th-century art history: Marcel Duchamp’s legendary 1917 readymade “Fountain.” Afif’s installation was generously donated to the museum by Paul Maenz in 2023. The exhibition presents it alongside other works that probe the institution of the art museum and the principle of authorship with depth and subtle humor.
